So, long time ago, I was invited to play something called GURPs with my friends. There were only two people who I knew out of six, but some players were in cosplay of the characters they've played, and we've quickly bonded. As a result, RP became one of my favorite hobbies at that time.
Time passed by, friends moved to different towns, and we've started playing through Discord. It was fun, But, lets put it this way - not an easy task. After that we've tried to use a lot of different tools – some of them simple battle map management. Some - full-scale systems, which you had to deploy locally and do full scale configuration, figure out plugins setup and so on.

And after multiple campaigns, and hearing a lot of complaints about how hard it is to put everything together - quests, maps, character sheets (and don't get me started on trying to home-brew something), I've said Screw it! I'm gonna build my own platform with Black Jack and Goblins!

The end goal which I had in my mind is to build a platform which can be used to "bind" the whole experience – from building and supporting a campaign to bringing players in. A place where you can publish your assets or explore other peoples' creations. Browse pre-made quests, or even worlds, and play them using any system you like, or build your own. And I want to make it free, and I want to make it easy to use.

And after a bit more than two years of development in parallel with a full-time job (can't believe that it's finally ready for at least initial release), Demiurge is ready to see the light of the day. There is still a big road ahead, but I believe that with the help of the community, we can make an awesome experience for both - players and gms!

01 - Game Sessions
Interactive game sessions

A shared canvas where everyone sees the same thing at the same time.

  • Public Assets library — explore and add community-created asset collections into your game
  • Journal — create private or public books from scratch, or use compendium references to quickly add new information for your players
  • Chat — welp, it's a chat
  • Dices — roll the dices, outcome will be shown and stored in the chat
  • Layer management — manage layers and objects on your scene
  • Measure and draw — configurable scene grid, ruler tool and free drawings on the scene

02 - Asset Collections
Public collection of reusable community assets

Maps, tokens, props and portraits live in collections you can pull into any scene. Keep them to yourself, or publish them and let the rest of the platform build on your work.

  • Public library — everything the community has shared
  • Private collections — your own uploads, organized in nested folders
  • Attach and go — add a whole collection to a session in one step
  • Coming soon — rate, comment and bookmark collections
03 - Compendiums
Rules, quests, and way more. Centralized

Systems, items, spells and creatures as structured data instead of a PDF you scroll through at the table. Look something up mid-session, or build your own set and share it the same way you'd share a map.

04 - Roadmap & Petitions
You can see and influence what's being built

The roadmap is public — actual features, actual status, actual priority order. Petitions are where that order gets argued about. If something is taking too long or heading the wrong way, you'll see it and you can say so.

  • Petitions - a place for the community to suggest changes, report issues and vote which should be done first
  • Roadmap - in-house task tracker, see what's in work in real time
  • Release History - read a story of the Demiurge

No investors, no ads, no one to answer to besides the community. Patreon is it.

Where it goes
Hosting, and the time to keep building

Demiurge runs on hosting that costs coin every month — servers, storage, bandwidth. That bill comes first. Whatever is left buys development time, which is the only thing that makes the app move faster. More support means fewer hours spent in the mines and more spent here.

Why it matters

Every 1 coin/month counts. Steady support covers the hosting bill and pays for my time to keep building — the goal being to make this full-time work and get a team, since this human unit can't get everything fast enough :)
